The personalities are a reason to come. Their accomplishments, their ideas, their humor, and incomparable stories such as Yermolinsky's talking about meeting Botvinnik in the Black Bear Lounge of our last hotel.Oddly enough, many people have said they want to meet Bob Long and find out if he is the same in person as he is in his writings. Find out, Q&A with him. Mr. Long beleives in extending courtesies to his guests, both guests of honor and attendees. In the night before food extravaganza everyone gets to know everyone else.
We invite people to send us a $100 deposit to hold a place for them. The money will be put into escrow. If for some reason the event is cancelled, the monies will be refunded. By paying in advance the deposit, two things happen:
A. It is easier to pay the remaining balance at a later date.
B. You incur special rights such as special seating.
In 2002 we had a special party for Chess Business Networkers, in my suite on the top floor. There these people were able to meet and mingle with my special guests AND enjoy food and drink in addition. The CBN is no longer in existence, but special contributors of $50 or more will be allowed in at a late night party.
As you send your deposit, we will list your name and state so that everyone can see, in advance, who is coming. This doesn't mean you HAVE to come, it just means that in general, if conditions are right for you, you will be there.
Truly, it would be nice if there were enough people into chess and what we do that all these caveats would not be necessary. In fact, it wouold be nice if we had a waiting list to get in! Is that possible, yes, it is. You can make it happen.
